I'm Back!!!

Squirrel!!!

Hey there all of my faithful readers, it's nice to be back. How was your Christmas break?
I had a good break and I got to thinking, maybe  I should start writing again. I talked to my owners about this pressing matter and they said yes. So now I'm back and ready to roll. This year of school I am starting with grade 11. This grade comes with a whole array of new subjects, such as advanced tail chasing and catching squirrels 101. It's hard going to a dog only school. All my friends are in the human school and I don't get to see them very often, but I will push through the days of learning so that I can lick my friends once again. I'm sorry that I haven't been writing for such a long time, but there is a reason for this: I went on a dog only sabbatical, and now that I have thought and rested I will bark again!

Until next time,
Tina

The Birth of Jesus Christ

Luke 2:1-7

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

Apple Bacon Dog Treats

Yield 18-20 treats
INGREDIENTS
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 2/3 cup oat flour
  • 1/3 cup wheat germ
  • 2/3 cup whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup ground pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tbsp. ground flax seeds
  • 2 cups carrots, roughly chopped
  • 1 apple, cored and sliced
  • ½ cup natural peanut butter
  • 2 chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1 tbsp. honey
  • 1 egg
  • 3-4 pieces of cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1 tbsp. bacon grease (optional)
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese (optional)
  • 1 tbsp. chocolate free sprinkles (optional)
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 350. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together rolled oats, oat flour, wheat germ, whole wheat flour, ground pumpkin seeds, and ground flax seeds.
  3. Add carrots and apples to the bowl of a food processor and pulse until smooth. Add peanut butter, bouillon cubes, honey, egg, bacon, and bacon grease (if using) and pulse until well combined. With the food processor running, slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until a thick dough forms.
  4. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  5. Roll the dough between two sheets of plastic wrap until it is about ¼ inch thick. Press a dog bone shaped cookie cutter into the dough and transfer each cookie to the prepared cookie sheets. I also made some smaller treats for training using a small circular cookie cutter.
  6. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until golden in color. Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool.
  7. Once cool you can optionally ice the treats with cream cheese and sprinkle the tops with chocolate free sprinkles. (Great for special occasions)
  8. Serve at room temperature.
Note: stored in a sealed container or cookie jar the treats will last about one week. The cookies can also be frozen for future use.

10 Days till Christmas!

Hello Again!

It is now only 10 DAYS till Christmas! I'll be doing a countdown starting today that will include all things Christmas! Recipes, gift ideas, stories, and photos all relating to Christmas will be coming your way in the next few days. Hope you enjoy these next few posts as much as I do!

As we start to count the days till Christmas (we can count them on our hands now!)( or paws!) we need to keep in mind what the real meaning of Christmas is: a celebration of our Christ's birth.
The story of Christ is so amazing, and we need to constantly give God praise & glory for it. We often lose sight of what the real meaning of Christmas is, as we have come to over-commercialize it. Think about this for a second. When you turn on the radio in December, you hear songs about Santa, snow, and warm fires. Where does Jesus fit into this? These things are not bad in and of themselves, but we need to anticipate celebrating the birth of our Savior more than wanting "chestnuts roasted on an open fire". Jesus' birth is the most amazing story you could hear. Jesus, King of Kings and Lord of Lords came down in the humblest form on earth, a baby, in order to save our souls. Wow. He wasn't born in a palace with riches and wealth; He was born in a manger in a stable, yet He was and IS the most holy and glorious being ever in the history of time. So the next time you sit sipping your hot cocoa and curling up with your family (what can I say, I love to snuggle), listening to "Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer" remember what Christmas is really about : the awesome story of our Lord coming from heaven to earth to fulfill the prophesy from hundreds of years ago because He loves us. What an awesome God!

Wags & Kisses,
Tina :)

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
