The Chow Chow is Martha Stewart's favorite breed. She owns several, although she lost one in a kennel explosion.

Hey everyone! So, I have two things for you today. One is a fact: In 1999 Tawny, a yellow Labrador Retriever, gave birth to 18 puppies in her very first litter. For this she received the Iams' Mother of the Year award. Sorry, but I couldn't find a pic of her. :( Anyway, the second thing is an inspiring and fun video that I happen to love. Cool fact: The expression "three dog night" originated with the Australian Aborigines and means a cold night; so cold that you have to bed down with three dogs to keep warm.

How's that for puppy power?

Today I was wondering if anything significant ever happened on August 5th-anytime in history, anywhere- and sure enough, more than 30 major events happened including: Battle of Baton Rouge(a USA Civil War battle), The Mayflower departed from Southampton, England on it's first attempt to reach North America, and The Soviet Union formally annexed Latvia(WWII). More than 50 important/famous people were born today including Betty Oliphant (co-founder of Canada's National Ballet School),  Otto Boros (a Hungarian water polo player), and Neil Armstrong(astronaut). 60-plus important/famous people also died today. They include Marilyn Monroe, Victoria, Princess Royal (UK), and Shawn Burr (Canadian-American hockey player). Lastly, August fifth is the day for 15 worldwide holidays. Hoped you enjoyed the brief history lesson!
